Where a compounded medication is prescribed, it is prepared by a pharmacy registered as a 503A compounding pharmacy or a 503B outsourcing facility. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved products, and their safety and effectiveness have not been evaluated by the FDA in the way approved products have.
